Bean Switch Submission Guidelines

ALL SUBMISSIONS - deadline Friday, February 22, 2008

An art show/poetry reading will be held on Tuesday, February 22 in the Fine Arts Building, room 235 up the main stairs. Setup for artwork will begin at 7:00 pm, literary readings will begin at 7:30pm. Any artwork not submitted electronically may be photographed at that event by a BeanSwitch staff member.


This semester we will be looking for, but are not limited to, the best works in these genres by UTM students: poetry, short stories/fiction, creative non-fiction/personal essays, dramatic writing/screen plays, multi-media collaborations, sequential art, drawings, paintings and photographs.
All works following these guidelines will be equally considered for placement in the Spring 2008 edition of BeanSwitch. Please remember that printed works will be in black and white.
All writers/artists will be emailed upon receipt of their works as a confirmation.

LITERARY GUIDELINES - deadline Friday, February 22, 2008

While creative options are open, our literary guidelines only cover fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

You may submit up to five (5) fiction and nonfiction pieces with a collected length of no more than seven (7) pages, or fourteen (14) pages double-spaced. You may submit up to five (5) poems with a collected length of no more than seven (7) pages.

We encourage you to submit your literary works electronically via email as a Word document to
beanswitch@utm.edu

We will also be accepting work in the Department of English, room 131 of Humanities; a special box will be designated. If submitting there, please include a hard copy of your work as well as a Word document on a CD labeled with the works' titles.

All submissions must include a cover sheet with your name, best email address and phone number, and the title of your work. Please do NOT include identifying information on the work itself.

ARTISTIC GUIDELINES - deadline Friday, February 22, 2008.

Artistic submissions may include but are not limited to: photographs, illustrations, paintings, drawings, graphic illustrations and three-dimensional art. Any media that can be photographed and/or scanned may be accepted.

We encourage you to submit your artwork and photography by e-mail attachment sent to beanswitch@utm.edu or on a CD in the Department of English, room 131 in Humanities; a special box will be designated. All CDs should be labeled with your pieces' titles and accompanied by a cover sheet that includes your name, best email address and phone number, and the titles of your pieces.

Professionally printed (from film negatives), good quality photographs will be accepted in the Department of English as well. Please make sure that they are in some type of envelope for their protection, also accompanied by a cover sheet that includes your name, best email address and phone number, and the titles of your pieces.

All art pieces and photographs submitted electronically should be good quality scanned or photographed images with a resolution of at least 200 dpi. Preferably the image should be at least 7 inches or 2000 pixels wide.

Artists will be contacted for approval if manipulation of photographs of their pieces is required. Examples include but are not limited to: large text being placed over the piece and extreme cropping.
